Community Etiquette

Community Etiquette

Practicing community etiquette is an integral part of mindfulness and respect in the meditation hall. Please keep the following simple guidelines in mind when visiting our monastery:

  • Our community flourishes through the generosity of its visitors. We kindly encourage a contribution when participating in our programs or services.
  • Please arrive a few minutes early (at least 5 minutes) to settle in.
  • Avoid wearing scented personal products.
  • Turn off your cell phone upon entering the hall.
  • Remove your shoes upon entry, and ensure your feet or socks are clean.
  • Wear appropriate attire: As a mark of respect, visitors should wear modest, non-revealing clothing. Inappropriate attire includes, but is not limited to, short skirts, miniskirts, shorts, low-cut tops or dresses, open/low-back tops or dresses, off-the-shoulder tops or dresses, spaghetti strap tops, and tube tops. If dressed indecently or offensively, you may be denied entry.
  • Pets and non-vegetarian food are not allowed on the premises.
  • Once you have joined a service or program, please honor the meditation energy of the group by staying until the session concludes.
